Sure, if you have a couple guitar lessons in your day. Learning to play two instruments, however, won’t get you anywhere fast. So, a lot of people will learn as much as possible in a short amount of time.
3. No amount of practice will prepare you for a lifetime of learning.
One of the biggest misconceptions I see, though, is that people who practice a lot for a long time and make great progress are going to play amazing all their lives, and that’s really not true.
The truth is that you need time to practice, and you don’t need to spend 10 hours a day practicing. Sure, taking time off during a major project will help a lot, but, even with 10 hours a day of dedicated study, no amount of practice will prepare you for your lifetime as a professional musician.
In order to learn to play, you’ll need hours upon hours of practice. And, even if you’re already good at playing, it takes time to learn new sounds and technique.

In my last podcast episode, I talked about the amount of practice you need, and the amount that your brain needs to process it.
I talked about how you need to know what to do and how to do it, even if you don’t know the words, or the way a particular fingering, or a different note in the scale, should sound. That’s a LOT of work if you don’t believe in it.
How much practice? Well, that depends on what technique you want to master. If you want to play something fast, you need lots of practice. If you want to learn to play faster, you need much less.
And, yes, in certain cases you can make progress doing 10 hours of practice, but, that’s really not going to help much, if at all.
Practice doesn’t work when you don’t know what you’re doing, and it doesn’t work when you don’t know which technique to use because you’re unsure about the best way to do it, and you’re not confident enough to do it.
Learning a new type of notation or scale might sound easier if you’re having that feeling you get when, for some reason, you’re able to play that scale without losing your patience. But if the technique isn’t working, how could it
