I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ll reiterate, if you want to see the full scope of my artistic background, go read my blog post called “The Bigger Picture” — it covers every step in the way to full mastery. It is a book for all artists and it covers everything, from the small art project of a friend having me paint his Christmas tree to the monumental art installation project I’m currently building in my room — which is a massive canvas of a mural.
Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?
Have a goal — whether it’s to paint a portrait of you that you want someone to see, create a painting of a favorite character, get a great tattoo design, or any other creative endeavor, I can get you out of your comfort zone and bring your own vision to life. Then see where that takes you. It’s not about perfection. The world has room for everyone’s vision and we all have one, to be loved and to find happiness as we strive towards greater things. I’ve said this before and I will say it again (because that’s true no matter what you’re looking for): don’t let anyone, no matter what industry or medium you have chosen, put you in a box. If you keep being yourself, it will become real — just look at the amazing success of artists like Andy Kuo, Steve Ditko, Bill Sienkiewicz, and so many, many other masters in their own fields. It’s a matter of letting go of the idea that you need to have something perfect for you to be successful at every art outlet and let it all be enough to give you what you desire. I’m a firm believer in the saying “if you want more…you’ll get it.”
What’s your dream workshop?
If I’m being honest, I don’t really have a wish list at all (although I want to one day get to the point where I can do all the craft on my own and then go to the shop, hand paint something, and then sell it all!). At the very end of the day, I enjoy what I do. I really enjoy painting in broad strokes. I also enjoy spending time in nature and getting to explore the arts. My dream workshop, to me, is to open my studio to people from different areas of the country to show how different areas of the country bring these arts to them, with some interesting challenges and opportunities the result being art that reflects, or speaks to what’s
