What are the five basic skills of drawing? – Pencil Drawings Of Harley Davidsons

Drawing is just like any other skill in that there are many ways to do it and many good and bad ways of doing it. However there are two core elements that need to be kept in mind. These elements are what I look for in my artist and the process itself. In order to be successful you need to have both of these elements in place.

1. You need to know what you’re doing

What is your intent? If you have such a clear idea about what you’re about to do, drawing is incredibly fun. It’s also a great way to help you hone that intention by making sure that you know where you want your drawing to go from beginning to end.

2. You need to be clear and concise

Even with a good sketch, there’s still a lot a person can do on their own drawing that can help it move forward. In order to make sure your drawing’s moving forward as well, you need to have a well constructed, concise description of what your drawing should look like. This description needs to be as clearly delineated as possible, which is why I try to go over my work with each and every drawing session.

3. You need to understand what the drawing does

You want to be as clear as possible in what you’re doing and what each layer does, and why it’s there. If you don’t, you might be taking on too much complexity. With the same approach you need to ensure that every single stroke is clear and defined, and that you’re able to visualize each of the layers and how they affect the image as you draw. This is something that helps me a great deal every single time I draw.

4. You need to see the end result

The biggest key to drawing correctly is to see your work end up as a good representation of what you want it to look like, and how it’ll interact with everything else in your drawing. Without seeing your work in that light, you will have no idea how much you did to make that happen, and what the overall results should be.

5. You need to look at your work when it’s done

In order to keep drawing consistently, you need to see how your artist handles everything she draws. Once you’ve made your decision, and you’ve done that part of the process (if you haven’t already), then it’s time for the next part. Your work comes up again, and you can begin to see everything in your
