The FBI has opened yet another terrorism case, this time in Tennessee, after a suspect was arrested in late August.
The incident occurred at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. A video of the incident has since gone viral.
According to the Tennessean, a 21-year-old was detained after allegedly trying to board an international flight with explosives in his backpack.
The University of Tennessee police department says that the 21-year-old student was being held in custody of the Knoxville Metropolitan Police Department, where he is now being questioned on suspicion of being in possession of explosives (which is listed as “incendiary devices”).
Here’s what the police report says about the 21-year-old student and how the “bomb” turned out to be a backpack:
The following items were found inside of the backpack:
– A pipe bomb
– A timer
– A “blasting cap”
– “an electrical fuse”
– Two sets of detonators
– A detonator
– Some “cellophane”
– A “powdery material”
– Some other materials
“The pipe bomb had been cut open. A timer was attached and lit.”
The officer who spoke to the student says that he was acting as a “personnage” for ISIL, which means that he wanted to get “radicalized” within a certain time period.
The university student “admitted he did it out of a desire to become a terrorist or become a martyr.”
