You will be walking for 5 hours per day, 5 days per week: your daily mileage in miles
You will wear:
The standard dog walking size
The standard dog walking collar
The standard sized leash or harness
There will be no dog walking equipment or special water or food treats or supplies
The dog will be in a crate only while you are walking.
You will be allowed to feed your dog – in the back yard.
There will be a designated “dog walker” who will be responsible for taking the dog out and providing the dog with whatever it needs to eat.
The dog will not be allowed to go too far.
When I get the dog, how will I care for it?
We encourage you to treat your dog how you would want your own pet to be treated. The best way is to bring the dog back whenever you want to get in or out of it, give it whatever food you feed it and get the dog accustomed to going outside on a regular basis.
We also encourage you to give the dog a good bath and shower once a week, because your dog’s skin is also your best friend!
I have a rescue or “kennel” dog. What do I do?
If you have a rescue dog you will be able to get a dog walker or puppy-savvy individual to pick you up and bring your dog to the next stop – for you. Or you can let your local animal rescue or shelter vet or shelter staff get you your dog and bring it to your next stop.
There is a $10 fee for this service and you can pay it on the day you need it. For most people it is better to let someone else pay for your dog. But you may be able to use this money to get the dog from one rescue to another if you have one with a smaller waiting period.
If you are on a tight budget, you may be able to get a pet sitter to take your dog if he’s too big or if you don’t have one of those places where you can pay cash online. Then you can drop your dog off at the next stop and the next one will take it.
