How will you compete? These are questions that we are regularly challenged to answer as part of our ongoing work to find the future in pet products. We are especially interested in your advice and input about future trends of the pet industry to help us decide where we can best focus our research and the best opportunities for future growth.
Why do you want to get into pet foods? As we enter the pet food industry in the early 2000s, the market for pet foods has changed significantly. Companies are not so willing to invest in developing new products anymore when they realize that they can simply move to next product in the line or move an existing product to another product category.
If you want to know the reasons behind this shift we would love your answers.
What do you do that most people don’t do? I am a full time employee at the Food & Brand Lab and have worked on pet nutrition and food research for 18 years. I worked at the University of Texas Health Science Center, in San Antonio, TX for a full year before joining the Food & Brand Lab. I have spent nearly 20 years researching various aspects of pet nutrition and food research for the Food & Brand Lab where I have held positions in the lab for more than five years and received two PhD’s in food science.
I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of different pet industries ranging from research & development to food and pet health and science. I have done research for, and worked with, the following companies. In addition to the information contained in this survey, I have also included a number of items that describe my research interests, but I would very much like your input in that area:
FoodTalks; I recently became the Chair of the Product Science Advisory Committee for their Pet and Nutrition Committee. In my role, I work together with a diverse group of representatives from the pet and nutrition industries. The Committee is comprised of two full time members (I and a Research Consultant), two part time members (me and a Research Consultant), one associate member (me), an Associate member (my husband) and I continue to work with the first VP of Products.
PetFraud.org; In addition to the Pet Fraud Advisory Committee that I run, I also represent the Pet Industry Research (PIR), a non-profit organization that conducts research on pet foods and pet issues in the Pet Food Industry. A small fraction of the funding we receive comes from PIR, but the majority gets from the industry. We are
