I’m a total beginner, and I’ve tried to get in but am still new to it. Do we know anything about pole and strength and conditioning? I’ve only done it twice before starting to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu. What sort of things does it take to be able to do it consistently for multiple hours during a weekend? (It has to be a big dance room, plenty of space with the floor, and you have to be in the right frame of mind to keep dancing even though you may be tired and not fully focused on the work.) Any advice to help me figure this out?
Answer: We don’t know anything about strength and conditioning. I’m a beginner and have been, but my husband is already trying to teach me and we’re trying to get to know each other before we go to a class together. It’s possible that you could get stronger and do it even more comfortably. I’m not going to promise you to get stronger immediately, but the work and training you need to get better will be there, and we’ve found that pole makes a big difference in that.
Question about my daughter’s dance: As an American parent, I get quite frustrated when I’m told that a child can’t, or won’t, do a particular dance. When my daughter told me she wasn’t good in ballet or ballet dance, I’d be a good mom to her, but she says she’s not interested when I tell her she isn’t comfortable with certain things. She says she likes to work on things from a different choreography because she’s tired of playing the same moves over and over. Can you please help me figure out what I could be doing wrong? I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I’m having a lot of trouble telling her that, and I’d be incredibly grateful if you had some suggestions. What do you recommend I should be doing to make sure she’s having fun and having the best experience possible?
Answer: You don’t need to think that way about dancing. You’re probably having fun. And you’re probably doing it to get better.
Question about my son’s dance: I’m trying something new with son and we’re doing well so far. It hasn’t been a very good day for everyone. Do you have any advice for parents or dance instructors to help avoid mistakes or to get the basics down? I want to see a very successful dance with all kids!
Answer: We have a lot of dance parents who’ve
