This is a question that is often asked, particularly by beginners and those who don’t seem able to perform a good level spin properly.
If you get a spinning pole that spins around for a minute and find you really want to learn how to spin it properly at this point in time, you may as well not bother, as there will be no better training technique at your disposal.
But if you really want to improve your spinning ability you must take the time to invest in a spin class/classroom. For more information on this topic, check out this guide from Tony Pichardo.
It is not necessary for you to be an expert in spinning poles to do a proper level spin for beginners, but it definitely helps to have experience. Plus it definitely makes sense to try this technique if your first experience with spinning poles doesn’t go as planned out.

Do I Have to Turn around when using the pole?
If you do not plan on getting around frequently to move the pole from side-to-side, then you do not need to turn around the pole. Even though you may be tempted to try to use the pole at this point, if you have a few minutes to sit and look at the pole you should probably just use the pole normally instead.
Another caveat to this point is if you do get around frequently, because you will want to spin it so to speak on a regular basis as it is a lot easier to see what you need to do and how to do it if you do it regularly.
What if I don’t want to look at the pole?
This doesn’t really affect how to do the pole properly. The biggest mistake to make if you do not want to look at the pole is to spin it at any speed you happen to have it at. Unless you spin it normally, you would not be able to see what side you are turning to, and it is extremely hard for you to visualize you need to turn in either direction.
Another mistake to make is going too fast when you don’t know what angle to spin the pole in. There are two main reasons for this, the first is that if you don’t know what you need to do to spin the pole at a specific angle, then you will end up spinning the pole the wrong way and end up with a dead pole as well as spinning your own hand
