The most important thing we can do to improve your pole dancing is to start working out, and then go to the gym to do some weightlifting, do some yoga, and try to get some cardio on day in and day out. It’s a good way to get that cardio going so it’s like, you can actually do more exercises. You won’t be doing those same ones, you’ll be doing different exercises. One of the big things that you need to consider are the kinds of motions you need to do with pole, so that as we’re doing moves on the pole you can work out a lot of that muscle memory and you can develop really good technique.

Yes, but also, you know, the technique, and you build on that. You can’t just go and do 10,000 spins on the pole. You need to do it 3 times a week…just because it’s easy, it’s a beautiful thing to watch and a lot of people don’t think it’s a lot of fun. You’ve got to keep it alive, you’ve got to make it work.

Does a lot of what you do for the pole challenge come down to how fast you can do each pole movement?

Not all of it, but definitely the more things you’re doing and the more things that you’re working on, the more you can work on the technique, and as soon as you start doing the high balls and the spinning, the more things you can incorporate. Just because it’s easy. There’s a lot going on there when you’re just spinning or doing anything with your hands. There’s a lot of different types of exercises we do. We do high balls like a lot, and also, we do a lot of spinning, and I believe high balls, and we do some yoga, and it’s very important.

Is there a particular technique or movement that takes you up there that you’re excited about?

So, if we’re out there and you’re spinning and you’re looking up at the pole and you’re really into it and you really want to achieve the highest form possible…and you can actually see the results – like it looks like a giant hand – and you keep going, or you just want to go beyond it, like the spinning is really difficult and you can’t really go over it…and you know you have a high level of technique and the spin seems to go through your body quickly, but
